What is Waiver Speech/Language Therapy?

Dream it.

Speech-language pathologists, also called “speech therapists,” work with individuals on a broad range of physical and cognitive communication disorders: issues with articulation, stuttering, word finding, semantics, syntax, phonics, vocalization, and swallowing.

These disorders have a variety of causes, such as autism, stroke, brain injury, hearing loss, developmental delay, a cleft palate, and psychological issues, among others.

Build it.

Speech and language therapy may include:

  • Screening and assessments

  • Intervention and treatment for speech and hearing disabilities such as delayed speech, stuttering, spastic speech, aphasic disorders, injuries, lip reading or signing

  • Language stimulation and correction of defects in voice, articulation, rate, and rhythm

  • Receptive and expressive communication skills

  • The use of hearing aids or augmentative and alternative communication devices

Grow it.

Speech and language therapy service is only provided to individuals ages 21 and over. All medically necessary speech therapy services for children under age 21 are covered in the state plan benefit pursuant to the EPSDT benefit.

If you’re interested in therapy services for individuals under 21, a Behavior Consultant may be the best waiver choice for teaching communication skills.
