Occupational Therapy

“Man, through the use of his hands, as they are energized by mind and will, can influence the state of his own health”

-Mary Reilly

What is Waiver Occupational Therapy?

Dream it.

Occupational Therapy can help if you have pain, injury, illness, or a disability that makes it hard for you to do your job or schoolwork, care for yourself, complete household chores, move around, or take part in activities.

Occupational Therapists look at how you do any kind of activity or task. Then they come up with a plan to improve the way you do it to make it easier or less painful.

You’ll meet with an Occupational Therapist who can come up with ways to change your movements so you can get your work done, take care of yourself or your home, play sports, or stay active.

Build it.

Occupational therapy assists in physical abilities such as:

  • Screening and assessments

  • Assist and train on the use of assistive devices

  • Teach new ways to button a shirt, tie your shoes, get in and out of the shower, work on your computer, etc

  • Help prevent falls at home and in public

  • Improve balance, change their home to prevent injuries, build muscle strength, or adapt to their memory or speech problems

  • Build hand-eye coordination

  • Work on motor skills to grasp a pencil

Grow it.

Occupational therapy service is only provided to individuals ages 21 and over. All medically necessary occupational therapy services for children under age 21 are covered in the state plan benefit pursuant to the EPSDT benefit.

If you’re interested in therapy services for individuals under 21, a Behavior Consultant may be the best waiver choice for teaching new skills.
